My interview with the bear

This week my inspiration is John Muir.

During his time becoming acquainted with Yosemite National Park, Muir came into contact with many wild things, famously a Sierra Bear.

He writes that this encounter was an interview of sorts — and that the only way to learn more was to run up to the bear at full force to see what he’d do, not knowing the outcome.

In my first interview with a Sierra bear we were frightened and embarrassed, both of us, but the bear’s behavior was better than mine.

I hope that this week and in the future I can embrace this courage — to run at what I might fear rather than let my fear of it keep me at a distance.
